What is Tickle Lipo?
Tickle Lipo, also known as N.I.L. (Nutational Infrasonic Liposculpture), is a next-generation, FDA-approved device that utilizes low-level energy for stubborn fatty tissue removal from various body parts using infrasonic technology.
The technology originated in Europe and set itself from traditional liposuction. Tickle Lipo is preferred because it is safe, faster, more effective than other techniques, and does not burn the skin. The procedure can sculpt the body more comfortably and produce smoother results than traditional liposuction. The Tickle Liposuction device has a safety feature that ensures the healthy non-fatty tissues are not harmed by the infrasonic energy, resulting in better skin retraction. Tickle Lipo is used to loosen and remove fat in the following areas:
- Abdomen
- Neck and chin
- Inner and outer thighs
- Buttocks
- Waistline
- Upper and lower back
- Male chest
- Hips and flanks
- Love handles
- Bra bulge
How It Works
Before the procedure, patients will have an initial consultation with their surgeon to discuss the following:
- Pre-existing health conditions
- Treatment areas and expectations
- Any previous procedures
- Expected goals and results
During the procedure, small incisions are made at the areas with the unwanted fat; then, a small tube is gently inserted to begin melting the fat. The body sculpting unique mechanism vibrates at the end of the cannula with a swirling movement (10Hz) that loosens and removes fat without introducing heat. Pain signals are blocked when the nutational movement of the cannula and insertion of air creates a tickling sensation, tricking the nerves through the surrounding area. The stubborn fat breaks up due to the acoustic waves caused by the vibration of the cannula. Tickle Lipo gets its name from the tickling caused by the little vibrations. Some patients giggle during the procedure due to the tickling sensation.
Due to the swirling action at the cannula’s end, multiple cannula tracks are connected, creating a smooth skin surface. The superior, smooth skin results are achieved because the device emits low energy, allowing the surgeon to work closer to the skin’s surface. At the end of the procedure, a Refining Cannula removes fat from beneath the skin, resulting in tight skin (if the skin is elastic enough). Since Tickle Lipo does not use heat, the harvested fat cells can be transferred to other body areas that need augmentation. This is known as fat transfer and can be used to enhance a patient’s hips or buttocks.
Depending on how much fat is removed, some patients may have excess skin after the procedure and need a skin tightening procedure. There are non-surgical skin tightening procedures such as BodyTite, Morpheus8, and Renuvion that can help tighten sagging skin resulting in a firm, contoured body.
Post-Procedure Care
Results are seen immediately and will continue to improve over the following weeks as the body adjusts to its new body contour results. Patients can take over-the-counter medications for pain relief. If experiencing further discomfort, ask the doctor to prescribe pain medication for a more comfortable recovery. Moving around (walking) a day after the procedure would be best. Patients may experience skin tissue adherence and swelling, which may take 8 to 12 weeks to resolve.
In the first four weeks, avoid strenuous exercises. Patients can also resume their normal activities the next day. Wear a compression garment for about eight weeks to help re-seat the skin and achieve the best results. The compression garment should be worn 24 hours a day for four weeks, then during the next four weeks. Patients can expect a recovery period to last approximately 4 to 12 weeks.
Tickle Lipo Vs. Other Liposuction Procedures
The main difference between Tickle Lipo and conventional liposuction is that it is minimally invasive. Conventional liposuction is more invasive and has a long, complicated recovery time, with patients experiencing redness, bruising redness, and surrounding tissue damage. Tickle Lipo has minimal discomfort, and no surrounding tissues are harmed.
Unlike conventional Lipo, Tickle Lipo is less painful since the procedure utilizes a small-sized cannula. Patients recover faster, and there appears to be minimal bruising. Tickle liposuction is performed under local anesthesia, while other Lipo procedures use general anesthesia. Patients are usually awake throughout the entire process, and only the treatment area is numbed to minimize pain and discomfort. Multiple parts of the body can be worked on in just one session.
Candidates for Tickle Lipo
Tickle Lipo is suitable for men and women who have a healthy weight but have areas with stubborn fat that do not go away even after exercising and dieting. It is important to note that Lipo is not a weight loss procedure. It is not recommended for individuals with a BMI (body mass index) over 40. Patients should have 2 to 4 inches of fat on the areas where they need fat removal; otherwise, the procedure may be uncomfortable. Patients with diabetes and heart problems should not undergo Tickle Lipo. The procedure is recommended for patients who:
- Have realistic expectations
- Are in generally good health
- Do not want to undergo general anesthesia or major surgery
- Want body contouring in body areas that have excess fat
- Have no prior history of eating disorders or body image disorders
- Are willing to change their diet and lifestyle to maintain tickle Lipo results
