The Use of Autologous Fat to Sculpt the Body
Fat transfer involves transferring fat from one area of the body to another area to increase size and improve shape.
The procedure involves removing fat by suctioning it out either manually (manual liposuction) or using a power assisted device to suction the fat (power assisted liposuction).
The procedure could be limited to one small area or involve full-blown liposuction of an entire section of the body. It can be done in the operating room under general anesthesia, less common nowadays, or it can be done in an office or surgery center under local anesthesia using a solution called tumescent fluid which is a combination of medications to anesthetize the area treated, reduce bleeding. The anesthesia achieved allows the patient to have the surgery awake and pain-free.
