Bio-identical hormones are hormones that are virtually identical to those produced by your own body. By contrast, synthetic hormones are manufactured by pharmaceutical companies and are chemically similar to (but not the same as) the hormones made by your own body.
Synthetic hormones may offer a few benefits, but unlike natural hormones, they do NOT always fit exactly into your body’s hormone receptor sites. For this reason they may not work as well as bio-identical hormones and typically have a greater number of undesirable side effects.
Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) is useful in treating women in menopause, peri-menopause (beginning menopause), or post-menopause who want to reduce hot flashes, night sweats, and improve the quality of their sleep. HRT is also been shown to be helpful in improving mood, concentration, and memory, as well as libido. Women who are on HRT also experience a lower incidence of osteoporosis and are able to maintain better muscle mass and strength which are key components to successful long-term weight management.
HRT can also be useful in treating men suffering from symptoms associated with andropause (the male equivalent of menopause). Typical symptoms include low testosterone, chronic fatigue, loss of libido, erectile dysfunction (ED), irritability, depression, and reduced muscle mass and strength.
We take great pride in our ability to prescribe personalized Bio-identical Hormone HRT “regimens,” including hormone pellet implants, that are uniquely tailored to meet our patients’ individual needs. After a detailed review of your personal history, together with your laboratory and physical exam results, we can design an HRT regimen that is just right for you to optimize YOUR hormonal balance. We then carefully monitor and modify (fine tune) your regimen over time, as your needs change.
